The Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa (FLIA) promotes independent academic research and teaching; open and issue-oriented debate; and evidence-based policy making across LSE. The Institute accomplishes this by connecting different social science disciplines and working with African partners bringing the African perspective to global debates. Based within the institute, the Centre for Women, Peace and Security (WPS) is a leading academic space for scholars, practitioners, activists, policy makers and students to develop strategies to promote justice, human rights and participation of women in conflict-affected situations around the world. WPS hosts the UKRI GCRF Gender, Justice and Security Hub which is the main Centre activity along with several smaller research grants. The Hub is a multi-partner, multi-year international project delivering interdisciplinary research on the challenge of achieving gender justice and inclusive security in conflict-affected societies and connects with leading ambassadors for gender justice to advance sustainable peace.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Manager who will manage the Hub and the Centre for Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) with a time split of 20% WPS and 80% Hub. The Manager will support the growth of WPS which is currently a small Centre with several research grants and the Hub sitting within it. The role will ensure the smooth operational, administrative, and financial management of WPS and the Hub. The Manager will line-manage the professional services staff members of WPS, including the Hub and will manage external consultants; and provide a supportive environment for internal and external communications with relevant LSE divisions, Centre and Hub partners and stakeholders. The Manager will work closely with the Centre Director, Hub co-Principal Investigators, and Institute Manager to implement and align WPS and Hub policies, processes, and strategies with the FLIA and LSE. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision and finding creative solutions to unforeseen contingencies.
The post holder is expected to have strong operational, administrative, financial, and managerial experience and, preferably, experience of the university social science research environment. Candidates should also have staff management experience, excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate complex information to others and the ability to resolve problems when an immediate solution is not apparent.
We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
For further information about the post, please see the how to apply document, job description and the person specification.
