As an Advanced Lead Systems Design & Integration engineer in our Systems and Software team, you will be contributing to the development and integration for a large-scale, complex, aircraft power control system. You will be passionate about the ‘’big system picture’’ and enjoy working across different engineering disciplines, bringing together mechanical, hardware and software teams, as well as considering safety, reliability and production aspects of the product.

Job Description

You will leverage your experience of the Systems Engineering lifecycle to enable the teams to deliver all aspects of the system development; from creating high-quality requirements aligned to Customer needs, system development and design, implementing changes to the functional and interface components in software, hardware and mechanical design to ensure a seamless integration. You will have a strong Customer focus and be committed to developing a mutually beneficial relationship with a brand-new customer! The project is now integrating the prototype hardware and software into our labs, and you will be supporting this all the way to the customer facilities! Essential Responsibilities

  • You will use your experience of the full design-to-release lifecycle to lead aspects of Systems Engineering of the product focussing on development and integration.
  • Lead trade studies and system changes working with the Customer and engineering teams to optimise the existing power system architecture
  • You will effectively collaborate with the Customer and other engineering teams to ensure that all product milestones and deliverables are effectively met.
  • With your focus on integration, you would be leading the investigation of systems issues working with the engineering teams (Software, Hardware and Test) and the Customer, and this could be at a sub-system level or at an aircraft-level
  • Effective change management and support to project leadership in planning activities is essential.
  • Support Lean continuous process improvement activities such as PSR (problem solving report), Kaizen, 5S, etc. to rapidly resolve issues and continuously improve existing processes and strategies
  • Communicate effectively and proactively on progress and demonstrate ability to plan, estimate, prioritise and manage activities to meet the project schedule
  • Participate in certification compliance activities and design reviews

Qualifications / Requirements

  • An appropriate degree or HND in Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Physics or similar subject, or equivalent experience shows a logical mindset, alongside good problem solving and solution building skills.
  • Previous experience in systems design lifecycle in aviation, automotive or similar safety-critical system development environment and a good understanding of challenges in hardware and software integration
  • Demonstrates understanding of working to rigorous industry mandated development standards; for example, ARP4754A, DO178C or DO160G.
  • Knowledge of different verification strategies and test equipment to aid in creating, updating, and performing systems tests – be it script-based automated tests, or writing procedures for manual actions. Knowledge of test infrastructure and design of testing facilities is key to success in this role.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with verbal and written English for technical reports, presentations, and analyses to both internal and external customers
  • Previous experience in team-based projects providing direction and coaching to less experienced staff.
