This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with a passion for infant feeding. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our Infant Feeding team at Nottingham University Hospitals. The role is for 17.5 hours per week and will be from Monday to Friday with no unsocial hours.

Main duties of the job

We are a Tertiary Centre providing Maternity care to approximately 8900 women of Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas. Services are delivered across 3 sites which includes community.

The successful candidate will have a key role in maintaining high standards of infant feeding, whilst promoting evidence based practice. You will need to be an innovative practitioner and effective change agent to help us as we continue to work to our UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative standards.

As the successful candidate you will work alongside our infant feeding leads to act as a role model in promoting best practice in relation to infant feeding. This will involve running infant feeding clinics, supporting the tongue tie division service as well as providing feeding support on the postnatal wards.

As the successful post holder you will offer breastfeeding or bottle feeding advice support and education to the mothers within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. You will participate in annual audits of the service in line with BFI requirements.

You will be expected to work across all sites of the service including QMC, City Hospital and community.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Spoken and written English and Math to high standard
  • Good general education
  • A qualification in breastfeeding

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous experience of working with the public
  • Previous experience as a health care support worker

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience supporting new mothers with breast feeding
  • Previous experience of working within a team
  • Demonstrates awareness of audit and quality issues
  • Knowledge of baby friendly initiative standards

Communication & Relationship

Essential criteria

  • Able to speak and write fluently in English
  • Evidence of good written and oral communication skills
  • Basic IT skills including good working knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Professional attitude
  • Demonstrates understanding of the importance of working in a team
  • Basic maternity specific clinical skills

Desirable criteria

  • Other IT skills e.g. Microsoft Excel
  • Advanced maternity specific clinical skills

Planning & Organisation Skills

Essential criteria

  • Self-motivated and committed to self-development
  • Ability to use own initiative in planning their day appropriately
  • Must be able to drive and perform home visits

  • Previous experience in writing infant feeding plans

The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

  • Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
