Job Description

Development Project Officer

Salary: £26,700 - £34,700

Location: Coventry / Cambridge / Hybrid

Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract (considered as a secondment opportunity for internal applicants)

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

Our Development Project Officers are involved with the redevelopment or amendments of OCR Vocational Qualifications. There is a great opportunity for you to be innovative in this role, as you will be working on new qualifications which will be going out to all of our learners across the country. This is the opportunity for you to use your previous project management experience to liaise with colleagues across OCR to ensure the smooth and successful delivery of Product Development projects.

As an excellent communicator with a positive can-do attitude, you will be flexibly working on a range of varied briefs, delivering high quality amendments to products often at a fast pace, or working on projects to support future development processes. This is your chance to work directly on our products, contributing new ideas and shaping the future of our vocational qualifications that are being taken by children and learners across the UK.

About the role

You will work with a Product Designer on product development, amendment or withdrawal projects (from inception to business readiness). Ensuring products are delivered on time, to cost, and to quality assurance parameters.

  • No two days will be the same here, but if we had to sum it up, a typical day could involve the following:
  • Project planning
  • Establishing project plans and schedules
  • Managing risks and issues
  • Working with colleagues in different teams including assessment, sales and marketing, operations, product management and product support, and sometimes external developers
  • Capturing spend against project budgets
  • Ensuring that projects are delivered in adherence to OCR and relevant regulatory process and governance requirements.

You will be amending and updating current qualifications based on strategic insights and internal and external feedback. This will include administrative and proof-reading activities.

You will be contributing to specific projects to improve product development processes or governance.

About you

Experience within project management is imperative for this role, and you need to be a confident “plate spinner,” as you will often have multiple competing priorities. A high capability with Adobe Acrobat and MS Office will allow you to hit the ground running in this role, as well as a positive, can-do, problem-solving attitude. If you have previous education-related background, that is a huge benefit.

For a full brief on what this role entails, or more details on what will make you successful, please see the full job description at the bottom of the advert on our careers page.
