Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.
- To abide by Trust policies and procedures
- To assist the Registered Nurses / ODPs in providing high quality patient care within the Peri-Operative environment
- Maintain patients privacy and dignity at all times
- Be an effective part of the multi disciplinary team contributing to the departmental objectives.
- Continue to develop and maintain competencies in nursing tasks to maintain high quality safe care.
- Contribute to the work of the department by working under minimal supervision of registered practitioners or assistant practitioners.
- Will carry out delegated, repetitive, routine and familiar tasks.
- Have an awareness of normal parameters concerning patient / client wellbeing and report that which is out with normal parameters to the registered professional.
- May be required to carry out routine elements of assessment to enhance the patient / client journey, following an initial assessment by a registered practitioner.
- To be an integral part of the Theatre Team delivering care to patients in the Perioperative environment

If successful, you will attend NuTH’s Healthcare Academy and Simulation training before being placed on a clinical ward or department to gain experience in a healthcare role. Within your first 3 months you will also attend a 12 day training programme to start developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to complete the apprenticeship.
After the initial 3 month period, you may be eligible to transfer into a permanent role within the Trust.
You will work towards the Level 2 Health Care Support Worker apprenticeship, which involves a 12 month training period followed by up to 3 months to complete the End Point Assessment.
Throughout the apprenticeship you will be paid the National Living Wage at the 23+ rate (currently £8.91 per hour), regardless of your age. Your annual leave entitlement will be 27 days per year plus bank holidays.
Please note that due to the shift patterns involved, this apprenticeship can only be offered to those who are 18 years of age or older. We will take applications from 17 year olds if they are likely to have reached 18 by their start date.
