Do you have the passion and drive to support young adults aged 18 - 24 with a learning disability/autism be successful in their first job?

We have an exciting opportunitiy for two Job Coaches to join our dynamic, growing and committed Buckinghamshire Supported Internship team. Working alongside the Senior Job Coaches, the role involves supporting our interns in their work placements, assisting with the learning of key employability skills in the training room and helping them make the successful transition into their first paid employment.

Buckinghamshire Supported Internship is a flaghship education programme, a partnership between Stony Dean School and Buckinghamshire Adult Learning that has been successful in supporting young adults for the past five years and has a proven-track record of achieving 70% of learners into paid employment with a range of local employers each year.

The role will predominantly be based at Buckinghamshire New University Aylesbury/High Wycombe Campuses with travel to workplaces providing on-site job training across the County. You will need the ability to analyse tasks so as to teach them systematically and a willingness to be part of a team approach to building the skills working effectively with the intern, employer and parents/carers . Full training will be provided.

Stony Dean School has worked in partnership with Buckinghamshire Adult Learning for 4 years to deliver the Supported Internship. Together, we provide young people a springboard from education into the world of work. The supported internship is bespoke for each intern and is designed to develop transferable skills, knowledge and attitudes in preparation for paid employment. Through specialist training and direct work placements, interns will develop employability skills, self-confidence, job specific skills whilst working alongside employees in a real employment setting.

About the role

Buckinghamshire Supported Internship is an exciting and innovative employability programme designed for the right candidate who has a range of skills that are suitable for working in a business as well as a school.
Our flagship Supported Internship requires two Job Coaches to support our learners during their 1-year education programme whilst on their work placements, as well as providing in-job support for our interns that have completed the programme and are embarking on their first year in paid employment. Your role will be to ensure our young adults are successful in the workplace by using specialist coaching strategies to make the world of work accessible.
You will work closely with the employer, parents and adults with learning difficulties to ensure success in the workplace and attend employee progress review meetings. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between education and successful long term employment.

About you

The successful candidate will need to be confident, adaptable, have good observational skills, and be able to work with local employer's includiing health, hospitality, education and the public sector. The Job Coach will have experience of working with individuals with learning difficulties and autism and ideally complex needs.
We are looking for driven and motivated people to support young adults to achieve their full potential in the workplace. The role will involve assisting the employee to build the necessary skills to become more independent; have good interpersonal skills and be able to problem solve as well as work on your own initiative. Ideally, you will have experience of working within SEN and are dynamic and flexible, with high standards of literacy, numeracy and IT literate. You will be committed to making the world of work a more accessible place and helping young adults achieve their employment goal and aspiration.
Our aim as an organisation is to provide a ground breaking education programme, which helps young people with disabilities to develop skills in order to build confidence, develop employment skills and secure long term employment. Due to the nature of work, the above post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and appointment will only be confirmed if a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure is obtained from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).
