Overview

Appointment of Chair and Members to the Accounts Commission for Scotland


Do you have a passion for public service and improving how councils and other public bodies address the challenges facing Scotland to benefit people’s lives and the communities in which they live? The Accounts Commission is looking for a Chair and up to four members. If you are interested in this exciting opportunity, we would like to hear from you.


The Accounts Commission is the independent public body which oversees the performance and spending within Scotland’s 32 councils, 30 health and social care joint integration boards and other joint boards. We play a significant role in Scottish public life helping to ensure that public money is spent properly, efficiently and effectively. We are responsible for the audit of all local authorities in Scotland.

Skills/Experience Required

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate the following:

Chair
You must be able to demonstrate all of:
  • Leadership and Governance;
  • Relationship management and influence

Member

You must be able to demonstrate evidence of one of:

  • Experience of operating in a political environment;
  • Experience of change management;
  • Experience of local government;
  • Experience of finance, accountancy, audit and/or risk

Chair and Member
You must be able to demonstrate all of:
  • Commitment to improvement in public services;
  • Constructive & supportive challenge;
  • Sound judgement based on good analytical skills.


Remuneration:
The role of Chair attracts a remuneration rate of £352.12 per day and the member role at £302.15 per day. The roles are non-pensionable. All reasonable receipted dependant-carer expenses, including childcare, and for support required helping you carry out your duties effectively will also be reimbursed, where applicable.


Time commitment:
The Chair will be expected to devote 10.5 days per month and Members to devote at least 2.5 days per month. This will include attending meetings of the Accounts Commission and committees. Ordinary meetings take place once a month and normally occupy a full day.


Length of appointment term:
The appointments will be for up to four years.


Location:
The Accounts Commission is located at 102 West Port, Edinburgh, where it normally holds its meetings.
