This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative and forward thinking Commercial and Business Development Team in one of the largest Acute NHS Organisations in the country.

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced commercial and business development manager to join our team on a substantive basis. This role is key to support the continued delivery of a high quality, successful commercial programme which supports the Trusts financial performance and People First priorities.

The successful candidate will have a track record in the identification, development and completion of bids and projects, delivering high quality submissions and positive outcomes. You should have experience of project/programme management in the healthcare sector, and have a passion and enthusiasm to work collaboratively within internal and external stakeholders. You will be a team player, confident, compassionate and resilient and have the ability to manage multiple projects and bids, challenging deadlines and an awareness of how to manage competing organisational demands.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Head of Business Development and wider team, the post holder will work proactively and positively to ensure the delivery of significant high value commercial and business development opportunities that align with our People First priorities. You will provide expert commercial and business development advice and support and you will ensure that all commercial projects and bids contribute positively to the Trusts vision, strategy and financial sustainability.

You will have line management responsibilities within the team and will work closely with the Trust Executive Team, the clinical and corporate divisions, clinical specialities and with external partners/stakeholders to deliver a portfolio of complex bids and projects which align which align with the Trusts commercial and business development plan.

You will utilise highly developed communication strategies to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, you will help the team to deliver commercial training within the organisation and you will ensure that all projects and bids adhere to the Trusts internal and external governance processes.

The Trusts Commercial and Business Development Team has been established for nearly 8 years and has a strong track record of delivery. The Team leads on all commercial and business development related projects and bids, supports the development and delivery of the Trusts private patient strategy and is also responsible for the delivering the Trusts Overseas Visitors policy and processes. We are a small team, reporting into the Trusts Deputy Director of Strategy and operating within the Corporate Division of Strategy and Transformation which brings opportunities to work alongside colleagues in Strategy and Planning, Partnerships, and Transformation.

We are currently supporting a hybrid model of office and home based working with a hot desk booking systems for our offices based at the City Hospital Campus.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Master’s degree level or equivalent experience or training.
  • PRINCE 2 Practitioner level or equivalent experience
    • Qualification or relevant experience to demonstrate developed people and negotiating skills.

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria

  • Highly developed motivational, influencing and negotiation skills with proven experience of success at the most senior levels of organisations and stakeholders
  • Effective communication skills and proven experience in being able to communicate in a clear and articulate manner using tact and diplomacy in managing difficult people and situations.
  • Able to effectively use highly contentious information during commercial negotiations and in situations of major change.
  • Ability and experience at senior level in working with external organisations to deliver joint goals.
  • Ability to present highly complex data to a wide range of audiences, including at senior level within organisations.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to make judgments involving highly complex commercial information and using analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
  • Able to review and evaluate potential project/tender opportunities to ensure a fit and benefit to the overall Trust Strategy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Planning and Organisational Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to understand, prioritise and plan workload across a number of Commercial projects to maximise the benefit to the organisation.
  • Ability to work under significant pressure, to short deadlines and manage conflicting priorities while continuing to deliver high quality work.
  • Able to keep abreast of developments and changes to NHS Policy that may impact on commercial activities including bids, tenders and private activity.
  • Ability to use high level Project management and planning methodologies, Service Improvement tools and techniques to manage projects.
