The Defence Digital Portfolio Team oversees the Digital Portfolio for Defence, both across the function and the Defence Digital Delivery Teams. Enabling clear and consistent management of the portfolio; providing one source of truth for portfolio data, to drive standards, improve insights and support delivery.

Defence Digital, sit within MOD Strategic Command, fulfilling an important role in the age of information warfare within the Ministry of Defence (MOD). As an organisation Defence Digital provide digital and technology services to our Armed Forces, ensuring they can operate securely via various communication means including radio, satellite, and the internet. Operating at scale, with an annual budget in excess of £2Bn and a diverse team of 2,500 colleagues, we're aiming to make our Armed Forces some of the most technologically advanced in the world.

These job roles may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station which is based on business assessment of where the work is best done) and working remotely. However, you will be required to attend site of a minimum, of 2 days per week.

The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time. This post is advertised at 37 hours.

Job description

Senior product managers manage multiple products or a single product that is especially complex, high risk or sensitive.

This role is part of the wider Digital Portfolio Office and works across Defence to establish and manage the federated assurance model for all TLBs. It is responsible for managing the relationship with the Cabinet Office Central Digital and Data Office and associated Digital and Technology Spend Controls.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Develop and implement the cross Department Digital Assurance Franchise Model, including running initial pilots.
  • Lead Digital Portfolio Federated Assurance Reviews across Defence.
  • Lead Assurance across the Digital Portfolio ensuring proportionate reviews at key milestones/stage-gates.
  • Oversee the planning and management of assurance activities across the Portfolio.
  • Implement and manage Digital approvals within the existing Defence Approvals framework, working with key Governance forums and teams such as the Defence Portfolio and Approvals Secretariat (DPAS), the Joint Requirements Oversight Committee (JROC), Cabinet Office and Commercial.
  • As departmental lead for Digital and Technology Spend Controls mange the Defence Digital & Technology Spend Control Pipeline with the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) including the quarterly Joint Assurance Review (JAR).
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation of approvals and assurance processes, considering wider Defence systems and processes.

As a Product Owner, you will:

  • Line manage associate product managers and product managers and you will be involved in hiring associates, product managers and contractors.
  • Have expert product management skills.
  • May be involved in elements of programme management activity.
