Job Title:
Senior IT Hardware Engineer

Location: Portsmouth Broad Oak

Salary: Up to £51,380


What you’ll be doing:

  • Producing detailed designs of hardware implementations from top level designs
  • Specify and initiate procurement of hardware and manage receipt of deliveries and onward despatch as well as controlled transfer documentation
  • Providing hardware design input to bids and studies
  • Providing second line support to service delivery, investigating hardware issues, and providing solutions, where required, to maintain system availability
  • Managing the hardware spares to support service delivery programmes and Reference Kit at Broad Oak and forecasting of spares levels and provision of spares including the identification of any concerning trends. Support the Systems and Software teams where required to resolve hardware issues found during project development
  • Managing the configuration control of the hardware items
  • Undertaking the creation of installation, modification and commissioning procedures relating to newly installed hardware
  • Liaising with the Ministry of Defence Site Coordinating Installation Design Authority (SCIDA) to ensure that installations and modifications at site comply with their governance
  • Providing day-to-day mentoring and technical support to the Early Careers engineers supporting programmes

Your skills and experiences:

  • Breadth of knowledge and experience of hardware Systems Development Lifecycle on complex systems
  • Knowledge and experience with PC & networking hardware. This includes cabinets, cabinet design, wiring schedules and power distribution
  • Knowledge and experience in generation of design, test and installation documentation
  • Knowledge and experience of IT tools, businesses approaches, practices and procedures including the standards for governance and compliance

The Training Services Group team:

As a Senior IT Hardware Engineer within Training Services Group, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of the hardware engineering aspects of simulation technology-based programmes. This role works within a multi-disciplined engineering team consisting of systems, software, and hardware domains. A strong hardware engineering background is essential and experience in the development of IT based technology systems very desirable. The role will provide the opportunity to work on projects that will shape the future of training solutions for the Royal Navy and other international navies.
