Our Supply, Trading and Optimization group is Suncor’s face to energy commodity markets and is expanding the current crude, refined products, and LPG trading platform with a focus on enhancing the optimization and trading activities supporting a significant and growing international footprint. Our London trading office initially opened in 2011 and has been steadily building. We support Suncor's international E&P business as well trade for profit across physical and financial markets. Currently, Suncor has Supply, Trading and Optimization offices in Calgary, London, and Houston.
We are looking for an individual with Middle Office and Risk Management experience in crude, refined products, or LPG to join our global Middle Office Risk team. The Senior Risk Advisor role plays a critical part in ensuring our commodities supply and trading activity is conducted with transparency and falls in line with our Risk Management framework and associated policies.
You will use your expertise to:
- Analyze and publish the daily risk management exposure reports, profit and loss (P&L) reports, and other related reporting requirements for our International crude, products and LPG trading activity.
- Administer risk governance policies and standards as part of the control program supporting the supply and trading business.
- Operate as the main day-to-day risk function contact for our crude and products trading team based in London, with strong connectivity to our Calgary and Houston teams.
- Collaborate with commercial and other functions to support the significant growth of new business initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement opportunities in processes and systems.
- Balance independent reporting and control duties with a business partnering and enabling approach.
- Perform other duties include extensive cross-functional project work, and periodically supporting other Crude Trading office locations.
- Ensure trading activity complies with internal and external policies and limits
- Perform ad hoc market or quantitative analysis
- Works to identify new and/or complex transactions and primary result drivers, and their financial implications.

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
- five years+ of relevant experience, preferably in Commodity trading (Front, Middle, or Back Office capacity).
- Superior understanding of commodity risk management, including derivatives, physical crude markets, trading cycle, risk metrics (VAR, Stop Loss, Stress Testing)
- Understanding of industry leading practices in risk governance process and procedures.
- Understanding of derivative regulatory and compliance environments
- Proven ability to build an overall framework to support higher level commodity risk management initiatives
- Proven ability to work within a complex environment
- Able to quickly read, interpret, and synthesize complex data and translate into effective communication medium to all levels of the organization, collaborating effectively within and across functions.
- Ability to remain independent and objective with respect to Front Office expectations
- University Degree, preferably Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Computer Science

Preference for:
- Advanced Excel skills, experience with Commodity Trading Risk Management systems (e.g. TriplePoint CXL, Allegro, Open Link).
- Deep knowledge of the physical oil markets (terminologies, contracts, data, fundamentals)
- Transaction modeling, portfolio modeling, VBA, SQL & other programming skills
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI and/or Python.
- Professional Designation (CPA, CFA, FRM) or MBA level
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:
- You will work out of our London office, located on Brook Street, Mayfair in Central London, combined with remote work arrangements.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
