The Pharmacology Group within the Tropical Diseases Biology Department is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on pre-clinical and clinical pharmacology studies.

The Pharmacology Group led by Professor Steve Ward and Professor Giancarlo Biagini has strengths in basic, applied and clinical pharmacology which includes;

• Investigations into the fundamentals of drug action and resistance
• PK/PD in vitro (animal and human) model systems, and
• Therapeutic evaluation of new therapies in patient populations including in pregnancy and children
• Work is carried out in GCLP-accredited laboratories and in a number of disease areas including Malaria, Tuberculosis, Neglected Tropical Diseases, AMR and emerging infectious diseases including COVID-19.

The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will be working within the Centre for Drugs and Diagnostics (CDD) at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, which comprises an experienced multi-disciplinary group of experts working together to develop new drugs and diagnostics. Using state-of-the art laboratories and equipment, the group regularly works with industry, academia and other NGOs to discover, develop and deliver novel therapies and diagnostics against a range of pathogens.

The successful candidate will have experience with in vivo and in vitro pharmacological assays, infectious disease models and bioanalytical experience with LC/MS-MS to provide drug analytical support for PK-PD studies. You will hold a PhD in relevant quantitative analytical science (Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Analytical Chemistry or equivalent) and have an understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

Key Responsibilities are (but not limited to):

• Development and validation of analytical methods for the quantitative determination of drugs and metabolites in biological fluids.
• Development of Absorption Distribution Metabolism Excretion (ADME) studies in appropriate experimental disease models.
• Support the production and dissemination of research outputs

It is essential that you demonstrate:

• Experience in quantitative analysis of small molecules and drugs by liquid chromatography / mass spectrometry based technologies
• Experience in validating analytical assays to international standards
• Bioanalysis and cell culture
• Basic biochemistry and pharmacology laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of modern approaches to drug analysis
• Ability to work as an integral and co-operative member of a multi-disciplinary research team
