Job Description

Salary: £32,100 - £41,700 per annum

Location: Cambridge or Coventry, Hybrid

Contract: Fixed Term (18 months), Full time (35 hours a week)

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

The role of Product Designer plays a critical part in Cambridge University Press and Assessment and presents an excellent opportunity for making a significant contribution to OCR's future success. You will join a dynamic and mutually supportive team that will help you develop in a time of great excitement for our organisation.

In this collaborative position, you will need to actively listen, ask questions, and suggest solutions to ensure that all stakeholders' expertise is incorporated into the development process. By building relationships with key stakeholders, you will have a hand in shaping OCR projects to benefit both our organisation and our customers. You will work closely with teams across the business to achieve this goal. Our team is highly supportive, and we provide a thorough induction programme and continued professional development opportunities to help you advance your understanding and skills.

About the role

As a Product Designer, you will interpret and communicate key information to subject matter experts and external specialists, in order to develop high-quality, cost-effective General and Vocational qualifications that are appealing to customers and meet regulatory requirements and our design strategy. You will collaborate with others to gather feedback and make recommendations based on this information, in order to create appropriate products. This multifaceted role requires outstanding interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.

Our work is grounded in evidence and insight. As a product designer, you will lead teams of contributors and liaise with relevant stakeholders to gather knowledge and insight to support the design of new or revised qualifications. You will be responsible for ensuring that the products are delivered on time, to cost, and to quality assurance parameters, including meeting regulatory requirements and the needs of our customers.

Working with colleagues in various teams, such as assessment standards, sales and marketing, operations, product management, and product support, is a crucial component of this position as you work to create innovative and engaging products.

About you

You will have prior experience working in the education or assessment sector, having designed or developed educational products. Your excellent communication skills will enable you to interpret a wide range of information to create or improve products.

In this role, the ability to influence stakeholders and gain agreement is crucial, particularly when dealing with multiple parties with competing interests. As a product designer, you will need to be confident in managing multiple competing priorities, similar to that of a "plate spinner".

Joining a team responsible for developing and enhancing qualifications delivered across the country, you will utilise your insights to create qualifications that meet the needs of teachers and students. You will gather and synthesise a variety of information to design exciting and innovative qualifications.
