This role is as an important resource within the Shareholder Assets team (front office), who are responsible for originating, structuring and selection of investment strategies for the Phoenix Shareholder investment portfolio, in particular Bulk Purchase Annuity (BPA) transactions.

The position requires ability to learn quickly and work independently, with considerable energy and in a markets and transaction-driven investment environment, including building a useful industry network.

The role is a permanent position. The position holder will report to the Shareholder Assets Strategic Planning Manager and work closely with the wider Shareholder Assets team, including the Phoenix Group CIO and Head of Shareholder Assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assistance in Preparation of Presentation Materials – creating customised analysis and presentations covering portfolio management, as well as market and strategic developments for a range of audiences (internal asset management forums, up to Phoenix Group board level and external investors / strategic partners), in a time sensitive environment
  • Quantitative Analysis of Investment Recommendations – monitor and manage risk exposures and quantifying impacts of proposed management actions on Phoenix Shareholder investment portfolios. Develop and maintain knowledge necessary to act as a subject matter expert
  • Support of Bulk Purchase Annuity (BPA) Transaction Pipeline and Deployment Tracking – development and delivery of investment strategy using data gathered from internal and external sources and discussions with stakeholders
  • Monitoring of Market Developments in Key Areas Impacting Phoenix Group – interest rates, fixed income market, equities, broader macroeconomic indicators, and ongoing news flow
  • Ongoing Business Project Management – tactical and strategic initiatives related to daily activities of the Shareholder Assets team

  • External relationships include Phoenix Asset Management’s professional advisors, portfolio manager and market participants

Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience and knowledge of capital markets, in particular fixed income and interest rates
  • Awareness of asset management and insurance markets and trends
  • Some knowledge of efficiency of assets under Solvency II balance sheet framework
  • Good modelling and analytical skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); Bloomberg experience desirable
  • Two years prior experience at banks, asset managers or investment consultancy preferred. Specifically, prior experience in either i) Asset and Liability Management, ii) Investment Research and iii) Investment Advisory
  • At least an undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics or similar
  • Evidence of work towards relevant professional qualifications (CFA, FIA etc.) would be
