We’re looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Highways team based in Salford. This role involves some fieldwork, so you may from time to time need to be able to work outdoors for extended periods Within this role, you can enjoy private healthcare, and options for a company car or car allowance, generous annual leave with the option to buy/sell and even more.

Location: This is an agile role where you will be based out of our Salford office with home working available and some travel to other offices and sites

Contract: Permanent – Fulltime (flexible and part-time hours available if desired, just let us know)

Salary: £45-£60k


Responsibilities

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll be working within the Highways - Major Projects team, supporting them in the direction of designs, reports and specifications for new construction, plus geotechnical appraisals of defects and repairs.


Your day to day will include:

  • Supporting the North Geotechnical Design Managers
  • Working directly with clients and project managers to develop and manage scheme briefs and budgets
  • Taking responsibility for management of the team’s outputs, collaborating with project managers and other designers
  • Liaising with our client’s specialist advisors
  • Managing the development of the team itself

What are we looking for?

This role of Principal Geotechnical Engineer is great for you if you have:

  • BEng Civil Engineering or BSc Geology / Earth Science or related subjects
  • A Chartered Professional with a relevant institution
  • Extensive experience in a road / rail design / maintenance environment and have experience with the application of the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges and the Specification for Highways Works and experience of ground investigation process.
  • Full UK driving licence
