Sitting across our three business lines; Civil, Defence and Engines at our East Cowes manufacturing plants you’ll do just that. Established in 1901, one of our older production sites with a workforce of circa 800 employees. Our East Cowes plants, Isle of Wight are where we design, manufacture, test and repair high performance structures and systems. We have two facilities on the Island; Falcon Yard, Ferry Road and Osborne Site, Saunders Way. Both locations employ the company’s distinct competencies in major assemblies and composite structures for the global aerospace market. Our customer base includes Airbus, Astronics, BAE Systems, Boeing, Bombardier Aerospace, Cessna, Cobham, Honeywell, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Rolls Royce and Triumph.

Job Summary


Based at our East Cowes site on the Isle of Wight, the Facilties Engineer will work across both our Civil and Defence Business Lines. Reporting into the Director of Business Transformation, the Facilities Engineer is accountable for planning and providing workspace facilities in order to maintain the welfare of our team and optimize asset and process reliability at optimal cost – ensuring assets never impact the schedule.

Job Responsibilities


  • Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance to the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards
  • Maintaining regulatory compliance
  • Work in collaboration with business partners to capture their workspace and facilities (building) requirements
  • Plan, design and oversee the configuration, reconfiguration and alteration of equipment and machinery
  • Gather and review data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, and required completion date and construction feasibility
  • Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings
  • Prepares bid sheets and, in collaboration with Procurement, contracts for construction and facilities acquisitions
  • Review and estimate design cost including equipment, installation, labour, materials, preparation, and other related costs
  • Inspect or direct the inspection of construction installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specification, and schedules

How You'll Contribute


To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:


Essential:

  • Strong experience within Facility Engineering
  • Background in Construction and/or Mechanical/Electrical
  • Detailed knowledge of nitrogen generation, plant and equipment
  • Previous experience of planning and estimating construction and large industrial insulation projects
  • Strong computer skills, particularly CAD
  • Strong knowledge in building standards and able to read blue prints
  • A relevant technical qualification – Level 3 qualification or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Professional qualification in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience working with a Lean Operating Model/Production System.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification by a reputable certifying body or benchmark company.
  • Building/equipment construction experience in the Aerospace industry.
  • Project / Program Management experience
  • Familiarity with AS9145 APQP process or equivalent
