Job Description

The main responsibilities of the successful applicant will be as follows:

  • Advising on intellectual property and commercial matters related to research funding and research collaboration across a number of divisions
  • Advising on the use of personal data in a range of research, teaching, and administrative contexts, including cloud hosting in connection with SaaS arrangements and use of personal data in medical research
  • Commercial work including procurement of goods and services;
  • IT projects, including software development and licensing, systems supply and integration, hardware supply and maintenance
  • Advising on a broad range of commercial matters, to support the University's academic and income generation activities;
  • Monitoring trends and changes in relevant law and guidance and to disseminate key developments to relevant key internal stakeholders
  • Organising and provide training support and briefings in conjunction with other colleagues
  • Presenting specialist information or complex solutions to management which may include Heads of Department/Divisions
  • Working with the team to propose and formulate precedent agreements

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate is likely to be;

A qualified solicitor or barrister, admitted to practice in England and Wales with significant experience of handling a varied commercial and/or IP caseload

Pragmatic and able to provide solution-focused advice both individually and as part of a wider legal team

Able to articulate legal principles clearly and concisely both in writing and orally
