Job Title: Senior Automation Tester (D&A)

Salary: Up to £65k plus excellent benefits

Location: London, North Greenwich

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Automation Tester with Big Data experience to take on the exciting role of ensuring that our technical data and analytics solutions are thoroughly tested. As the Senior Automation Tester, you will be responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive testing strategies that will validate applications, reports, and extracts designed and developed in Data & Analytics.

Responsibilities:

• Forge and execute robust testing strategies to ensure all technical data and analytics solutions are put to the ultimate test.
• Design and automate tests for your agile scrum development team to help deliver top-quality data warehouse applications and reports.
• Be a leader in adopting a test-first development method, where all tests created are leveraged to validate data extraction, transformation, and load code, reports, and user interfaces built using state-of-the-art visualisation tools.
• Join forces with Data & Analytics Product Owners to make sure all Data & Analytics solutions live up to business requirements by conducting comprehensive testing.
• Troubleshoot issues discovered during testing and work closely with peers and Business Analysts to rectify and solve identified issues.
• Produce, actively contribute to, uphold, and publicise a test strategy that serves as the foundation of all Data & Analytics test activity over a 1 to 3 year period.
• Contribute to agile process activities like estimating tasks, supporting work planning and completed work demonstrations, and generating test documentation to suit the team's working practices.
• Lead the creation of an all-encompassing regression test suite that optimises test automation and fits into an overnight/continuous integration build process. Suggest and execute initiatives to enhance the testing process.
• Ensure that all BI solutions adhere to TfL's policy on privacy and data protection. This includes controlling data access, securing personal data, and anonymising data based on industry best practices.

Skills:

• Expertise in testing in an Azure environment on components such as Databricks and Synapsewith extensive experience using complex queries in a test environment.
• Proficient in using a wide range of automation test tools including Microsoft Test, NUnit, SpecFlow, Selenium, Coded UI test, DBFit, SQL Server test tools in Visual Studio, and performance monitoring tools.
• Highly experienced in using test/defect management tools such as Visual Studio ALM tools (TFS) or HP ALM.
• Skilled at solving complex problems collaboratively, applying knowledge and technology to its fullest potential.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Proficient in writing/reading queries using C#, PowerShell, and/or JavaScript.
• Proficient in standard computer packages.

Knowledge:

• Strong understanding and experience in software testing including unit testing, integration testing, functional and system testing, and user acceptance testing, with a focus on SQL or Azure testing.
• Proficiency in test automation, especially in parallel with iterative and incremental product development.
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT, data warehousing/business intelligence methodologies, and best practices, including testing big data, Azure cloud technology, and unstructured data.
• Experience working with project management tools and an industry-recognized test/software development tracking tool.
• Familiarity with different testing methodologies, including V model, Waterfall, and Agile, and knowledge of development lifecycles.
• Familiarity with Agile development approaches and tools.
• A Bachelor's degree in IT/Computer Science and an ISEB or ISTQB Foundation qualification are desirable.
• Knowledge of London’s public transport system.
• Familiarity with relevant national and international legislation pertaining to the Government/Public Sector IT, including the Act, EU Procurement Directives, and Freedom of Information Act, including basic confidentiality and data protection requirements.

Experience:

• Extensive and robust experience in software testing at all levels, from unit to acceptance testing, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the discipline.
• Proven track record in test automation, including experience with iterative incremental product development.
• Expertise in testing data warehouses, with a strong focus on code testing and a high level of SQL/data content.
• Worked effectively as part of an agile development team, utilising agile testing techniques such as test-driven development and Behaviour Driven Development to deliver results.
• Experience with the Data Protection Act and working alongside Data Security managers.
