In the Environment & Sustainability service, the countryside and conservation team are engaged in the direct maintenance and management of the authorities’ environmental assets and green infrastructure including parks, open spaces, trees, public rights of way and countryside sites. This is an exciting time to join the Countryside and conservation team.


About the job


As the Access Development and Public Rights of Way Officer you will lead on the management and enhancement the public rights of way network and associated operational functions. This will include overseeing the warden service dealing with statutory and operational duties, health and safety, income generation, funding opportunities, project work and communication.


The role also includes contribution to the implementation of environmental improvement strategies, policy direction and other key initiatives such as reviewing the operational services and processes on an ongoing basis and making recommendations for improvement or development.


You will report directly to the Countryside and Conservation Manager and will work and liaise closely with the Ecology Officer, Tree and Woodland Officer, and the team Landscape Architect within the Service Area. Within the Environment and Leisure team there will be an expectation to work closely with other team managers, Councillors, Cabinet Members and a range of contractors, external organisations and public stakeholders to deliver and develop an excellent range of services for residents and businesses across the City.


About the person


Enthusiastic and confident, you should have a degree/appropriate standard qualification or substantial relevant experience in countryside or project management and have the ability to lead and motivate a diverse workforce. You should have experience managing teams and personnel, grant funded projects, operational services, high value contracts and have proven success of leading service delivery improvements.


You are open-minded and business focused, with an organised and analytical approach to your work – and you are used to maintaining attention to detail while working to tight deadlines. You are self-motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and appreciate the importance of customer care. You have strong financial management skills and a creative approach to problem solving with excellent IT and data analysis/management skills.
